Reading Activity: An Article

Hey!

What’s up? This week we bring you an interesting reading activity.

I’ve realized that, generally, our students don’t read or watch news (not even in twitter), so I decided to start using real newspaper articles to help building their interest up.

This activity is addressed at Bachillerato levels. Then, I chose a compelling article about music and I adapted it. You can find the original article on The Guardian:

https://www.theguardian.com/music/2019/feb/06/pop-2-0-how-globalised-music-created-a-new-kind-of-star

The following worksheet consists of real expressions and words that students are not used to read or use within the classroom (do you feel this fresh air?). For example: Lingua Franca or Vault (verb).

Then, the idea is that students work together to find the appropriate definitions using the context or the dictionary if needed.

After, the idea is that students create a project about their favorite musician, band or singer. Also, you can choose a song by the musicians in the article so to work on it.

Here you have the worksheet:

Hope you find it useful,

We wait for your comments

See you next Friday 🙂
