š WOMENāS DAY LESSON PLAN ONEš
ā£
We are going to watch the Youtube video: āInternational Women’s Day- Can You Solve the Riddle? (Mindspace)ā£āš²
ā£
1ļøā£ BEFORE LISTENING: Before we watch the video, we need to show them some difficult words for their level (weāre going to do this activity in 1st-2nd ESO). We will learn this new vocabulary all together (pictures 2, 3, 4, 5, 6)ā£Ā
ā£
2ļøā£ DURING LISTENING: Then, we will start watching the video but, before the riddle is solved, we will stop the video and try to guess it. For this purpose, we will teach them Opinion language (picture 6) and Agreeing and Disagreeing language (picture 8).Ā
Moreover, we will assign some roles to students so that they can talk without much of my help (picture 9)ā£
ā£
3ļøā£ AFTER LISTENING: Once they become aware that the CEO is a woman (picture 10), we will reflect upon gender stereotypes.
š WOMENāS DAY LESSON PLAN TWOš
This time we’re going to face stereotypes and we’re going to tackle the 8M from the stereotypes perspective. So, this is not a game where students are getting to know about important women over history or today. This is something we always teach during our sessions.
This game is aimedĀ Ā to desmistify and reflect upon the stereotypes we still have today.Ā Ā Students will learn about women and men equally. However, we want to reflect upon their answers and assumptions.
1ļøā£ BEFORE THE GAME: Explain that this game goes fast. They need to answer quickly without thinking about the correct answer. We’re working on stereotypes. If they answer correctly, they get a point. If they don’t answer correctly, it jumps right to the next random student.
2ļøā£ THE GAME: This game is based on the TV show: Identity. They see a picture and they need to guess: Who is this person? Which one is the correct fact about them? Which one is the correct random fact about them? I also ask random questions to guarantee attention.
3ļøā£ AFTER THE GAME: We’re holding a debate about stereotypes: what have they guessed? why have they thought so? It’s important we reflect after the activity, this is not just a game but it allows us to think about our assumptions and gender roles
These tasks require time and effort, we share it with you but we feel thankful if you share it with your friends and teacher staff š
